Seeking director for our 2025 production!

The Mighty Goliath Productions Board of Directors is seeking individuals interested in leading our team of volunteers as the Director of our 2025 Production.

The Mighty Goliath Productions Board of Directors is excited to learn of your interest in pitching shows for our upcoming 2025 production!

To facilitate the selection process, we are hosting a pitch meeting on Saturday, May 4th, beginning at 10AM at the Avon Lake Public Library. This provides an opportunity for you to personally present your show ideas and vision to the Board.

Those interested in directing our 2025 Production
should email their resume, and intent to pitch to mightygoliathproductions@gmail.com by
Saturday, April 20th, 2024.

The following includes information on MGP’s expectations for the presentation of your show ideas, as well as the qualities we seek in our chosen director. This information must be received by the Board by Saturday, April 27th, 2024.

Pitch Meeting Details:

  • Each director will be given an assigned time and have 30 minutes to present.

  • Please come prepared to pitch up to three shows that meet the following criteria:

    • Available Rights: The show’s performance rights must be currently obtainable.

    • Flexible Casting: The show should allow for diverse casting options to accommodate a large and existing pool of potential actors (last year’s cast was 65 on-stage performers).

    • Family-Friendly: Content should be appropriate for a fundraising organization supporting the arts in the Avon Lake City Schools.

  • By Saturday, April 27th, please email a list of your three potential shows, including:

    • Brief Synopsis: A concise summary of each show’s plot.

    • Candidate Notes: Briefly explain why you believe each show is a strong candidate.

    • Top Choice: Indicate the show you are most passionate about presenting first.

  • Please note that due to time constraints, we may not be able to fully discuss every show, so pitch your top choice first.

  • The format will be part presentation, part dialogue. The Board will ask clarifying questions to ensure they have all the information needed for a fair evaluation.

Board Expectations for MGP 2025 Show:

Volunteer Environment:

  • MGP is a volunteer-run organization, and all members are treated with respect and dignity.

  • We operate as a “no-cut” theatre, welcoming everyone interested in participating, regardless of experience. Participants can join the ensemble without auditioning.

  • Lead and featured roles are cast through an audition process led by the director with input from their creative team.

  • We do not pre-cast shows or offer roles in advance of auditions. Actors will not be asked to publicly audition for roles already privately filled. Only those participating in the audition process at the audition call will be considered for casting.

Collaboration and Support:

  • Due to our large casts, directors are required to work with an Assistant Director (AD) of their choosing. The AD serves as your primary collaborator, managing rehearsals in your absence, leading breakout sessions, or overseeing parallel rehearsals when necessary.

  • We encourage you to build your creative team beyond the AD by reaching out to colleagues for positions like Stage Manager, Vocal Director, Pit Director, Choreographer, and Costumer.

  • The Board will assist in filling any remaining positions and connect you with past MGP volunteers eager to collaborate.

Inclusivity and Accessibility:

  • MGP is committed to providing sensory-friendly matinees for all productions, and we ask for your collaboration with the Board and community members to ensure the success of this production for your show.

Rehearsal and Production Planning:

  • The rehearsal period for MGP runs on Friday evenings from September to January.

  • A rehearsal schedule, minimizing “waiting around time” for everyone involved, will be developed collaboratively with the production team (Producer, AD, Vocal/Pit Directors, Choreographer, and VP of Operations).

  • A provisional rehearsal schedule will be provided to the cast at the first rehearsal or read-through.

  • Technical requirements, including special effects and set design, will be finalized early on to ensure feasibility with the Performing Arts Center staff and Technical Crew.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. We want to ensure you have all the support you need throughout this process.
